“Capturing rural romance….”
by Wendy Marquis, of Vintage Art Montana

Art has always been a strong influence in my life, welcoming me and my twin brother into the world the moment we were born. With a mother who was both artist and gallery owner, I grew up in a home with an extensive art collection. I always knew I wanted to be an artist, even as a young girl. I went on to major in graphic design and in studio art, attending the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and graduating with a BFA from the University of Arizona. I lived and worked in New Hampshire for over 20 years, until 2006, when we made Bozeman, Montana our new home with my husband, 2 daughters and assorted dogs..
I am in love with the Montana Landscape. My eyes are constantly panning the world for a scene to paint. As of late, I search for ancient trucks and farm buildings in my Bozeman surroundings, as if a treasure hunter panning for gold; when I find one that speaks to me, I stop to see if I can feel a story within its old bones. If I do feel so inspired, I paint! As I interpret the joy I feel from these scenes and stories …it flows intuitively through my brush and onto the canvas.  When  I create a painting from my “Vintage Montana Collection,” I invite people to savor the distinct time and place that the trucks and barns evoke…a romantic, simpler time of unspoiled landscapes that so many of us long for and long to hold on to.
When a customer purchases one of my paintings, I like to think they take home a part of the romance from the era that I have attempted to capture with my paintbrush. I hope you enjoy viewing my work!
